A Presentation by Russell And Melissa Hobbs
July 27 - 28, 2024
Lanesville Community Center
Gloucester, Massachusetts

“they say you can’t know where to go unless you know where you’ve been.”

Lanesville Stories© brings forward the history of our beloved village for present-day residents and others to learn about its past and to preserve its history and culture.

The inaugural two-day event featured a return to bustling Lanesville in 1910, panelists who spoke about their lives growing up here during the 1930s to 1950s, a presentation about the seventy-year history of the Lanesville Community Center, and an exploration into the lives of people and families central to Lanesville’s founding.
Attendees delighted in the exhibits that honored these community projects: Lanes Cove fish shack, Rebecca’s playground, Virginia Lee Burton’s writing cottage, Community Center, and the Langsford and Cove Hill cemeteries. Taken together, the activities brought to life stories of the forgotten, remembered, and the unforgettable.

This pdf about Lanesville’s forgotten reproduces in print Russell and Melissa Hobbs’ presentation in order to reach a wider audience. The format is designed for the stories to be read in a single sitting or over time.
